Georgia Harrison calls for ‘kill switch’ to remove online abuse

Georgia Harrison, a reality TV star and online privacy advocate, is calling for the implementation of a ‘kill switch’ to allow for the instant removal of abusive content from the internet. Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Harrison argued that the current 48-hour takedown requirement under UK law is insufficient to protect vulnerable users.

Harrison, who was awarded an MBE for services to online privacy, has campaigned against online abuse since her ex-partner, Stephen Bear, was convicted in 2022 for sharing a private video without her consent. She warned that the non-consensual sharing of intimate images is having devastating effects on young people, stating that such abuse is “leading children to suicide.”
