Georgia investigates Atlanta shooting and Canton child murder case

A 26‑year‑old man was fatally shot late Monday at an apartment complex on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard in downtown Atlanta. Witnesses reported at least 20 shots fired, and police have detained a person of interest while the investigation continues. The victim’s identity has not been released.

In Canton, Georgia, 22‑year‑old Celso Edison Vicente Y Vicente was arrested on charges of malice murder and first‑degree cruelty to children after a 2‑year‑old child died following an emergency call to a home on Cartersville Street. The child was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Chief Marty Ferrell said, "The death of a child is heartbreaking," and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy. Vicente remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
