Georgia Macon to open Mère bakery in Cumberland, Maine
Pastry chef Georgia Macon is opening a new bakery-café named Mère in Cumberland, Maine, on September 26. Located at 204 Gray Road, the establishment will offer breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and take-and-bake meals.
Macon’s culinary background includes studying at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and working at Tartine Bakery in San Francisco and in St. Louis. Before moving to Maine, she served as the executive pastry chef for Prentice Hospitality Group, including roles at Twelve and Evo Kitchen + Bar. In 2023, she was recognized as a Rising Star pastry chef by StarChefs.
The menu at Mère is expected to feature a blend of French-inspired pastries and items reflecting Macon’s Missouri roots, such as biscuits, hand pies, and St. Louis-style gooey butter cake. The name Mère translates to “mother” in French, referencing both the concept of a mother figure and “mother” dough used in baking.
