Georgia Oakley directs new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility
A new cinematic adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1811 novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’, directed by Georgia Oakley, has premiered in theaters. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood and Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, the film explores the psychological depth and contrasting temperaments of the two sisters as they navigate economic instability and romance following their father's death.
Critics have noted the film’s contemporary sensitivity and its focus on female psychology and sisterhood. While some reviews compare it to the highly acclaimed 1995 version directed by Ang Lee, the new production is recognized for its realistic portrayal of Regency-era social constraints and inheritance laws.
The release coincides with renewed interest in Austen’s work, including an upcoming Netflix miniseries adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ scheduled for December, starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden.
