Georgia police officer shoots miniature donkey during search
Newly released bodycam footage from Cedartown, Georgia, shows a police officer fatally shooting a one-year-old miniature donkey named HeeHaw. The incident occurred in late August while officers were searching a pasture for a missing 12-year-old girl.
Officer Trenton Garner reported that the donkey was attempting to attack him and a K-9 team. However, the footage shows the animal approaching the officers in a curious manner. After a K-9 handler attempted to use a Taser on the donkey without success, Garner fired multiple rounds from a Glock 17. The donkey ran from the scene before collapsing and dying from the wound.
The animal's owner, Hannah Israel, stated that the officers entered her property without permission or warning. She described HeeHaw as a friendly, bottle-raised animal that was not a threat and has expressed her intention to pursue legal action.
