Georgia prosecutors decline charges in death of 12-year-old Jada West

Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine has announced that prosecutors will not file criminal charges in the death of 12-year-old Jada West. West, a student at Mason Creek Middle School, died in March after collapsing following a confrontation with another student at a school bus stop in Villa Rica, Georgia.

An autopsy conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed that West had an underlying genetic heart condition. While Racine noted that the stress of the fight could have contributed to her death, medical findings could not establish a definitive causal link. Additionally, investigators were unable to determine which student initiated the altercation.

The family of Jada West, represented by civil rights attorneys including Ben Crump and Harry Daniels, expressed deep disappointment with the decision. Their legal team maintains that the physical attack exacerbated West’s genetic condition and asserts that “if she hadn’t been attacked, Jada would be alive with us today.”
