Georgia Southern defeats Coastal Carolina 31-24

Georgia Southern defeated Coastal Carolina 31-24 at Brooks Stadium in their Sun Belt Conference opener. Despite a 14-point deficit, Coastal Carolina rallied to tie the game in the third quarter following a 73-yard punt return touchdown by Robby Washington and a 9-yard touchdown pass from Deuce Bailey to Goldie Lawrence.

Georgia Southern reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter with two touchdown passes from Max Johnson to River Helms and Alex Taylor. Coastal Carolina managed one final touchdown via a 29-yard pass from Bailey to Karmello English, but Georgia Southern secured the victory by running out the clock. Coastal Carolina moves to a 1-4 overall record, while Georgia Southern improves to 2-3.
