Colt Gray to enter non‑negotiated plea and sentencing hearing for Georgia school shooting
Colt Gray, now 16, is scheduled to appear in Barrow County Court on July 24 for a “non‑negotiated plea and sentencing hearing” in connection with the September 4, 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The attack killed two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and two teachers, Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie, and wounded nine others. Gray faces 55 counts, including four counts of felony and malice murder, numerous aggravated assault charges and multiple counts of first‑degree cruelty to children, carrying a potential sentence of up to 180 years. The trial had been moved from Barrow County to Columbia County to ensure an impartial jury. Gray’s father, Colin Gray, was convicted in March on 27 felony counts for providing his son with the AR‑15‑style rifle used in the attack; his sentencing is set for July 28‑29. The upcoming hearing will determine Gray’s guilt and the judge‑imposed penalty without a plea bargain.
