Georgia tourism down 5% in Q2 2026 as Russian visitors lead

Georgia recorded 1.3 million international visitors in the second quarter of 2026, a 5.2% year‑on‑year decline. Total tourism spending fell 13.3% to 3 billion lari (about $1.1 billion), and average expenditure per visit dropped 9.2% to 1,922.1 lari. Russian citizens remained the largest source market with 328,900 visitors (25.1% of total), followed by Turkey (16.9%) and Armenia (10.8%).

Most visitors (81.5%) were overnight tourists, 14.8% were same‑day excursionists, and 3.8% combined both. The predominant age group was 31‑50 years, and women made up 42.9% of arrivals. Holiday, leisure and recreation accounted for 49.6% of trips, while visits to friends and relatives represented 25.6%. Tbilisi and the Adjara region attracted the most visits. Despite the drop in numbers and spending, 93.1% of respondents rated their experience as satisfying or very satisfying, and the average length of stay rose to 5.48 nights, with 81.8% of trips made by repeat visitors.
