Tamaz Borashvili has been nominated by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to lead the State Security Service (SSSG) of Georgia. Borashvili, a career official with over 20 years of experience in law enforcement and state security, succeeds Gela Geladze, who resigned after serving less than five months in the role. Following his resignation, Geladze is expected to transition to the position of Deputy Interior Minister.

Kobakhidze noted that Borashvili is the first career official to be appointed to lead the agency, a move intended to contribute to the institutional strengthening of the SSSG. Borashvili expressed that the appointment is a “special honor” and stated his commitment to protecting national interests and strengthening security if confirmed by Parliament. The nomination now awaits approval from the Georgian Parliament.
