While the vulnerability does not allow for the alteration of votes or the changing of election results, it could enable external actors to identify how individuals voted. Researchers noted that the technical barrier to exploiting this flaw has been significantly lowered by AI, which can automate the complex data processing required to reorder randomized records back into their original sequence.

Georgia is currently the only state using this specific voting system statewide. While other jurisdictions using the same equipment, manufactured by Liberty Vote (formerly Dominion Voting Systems), have implemented software updates to address the issue, election security advocates criticize Georgia officials for not doing enough to secure the system before upcoming elections.
