Georgia's Anaklia Port Deepening Project Advances with Jan De Nul Contract

Work has begun to deepen the sea basin at the Anaklia port in northwestern Georgia to a depth of 17.5 metres. The project includes the construction of a 1,380‑metre wave‑breaker and is being carried out by the internationally recognised Belgian firm Jan De Nul N.V. together with Georgian partners.

The development is part of a broader plan to build a new maritime hub that will link with road and rail infrastructure, allowing the port to handle cargo in partnership with multiple countries and companies. The Georgian government says the project follows a globally approved “landlord” model intended to maximise the port’s efficiency and attract international trade.

The deepening works are proceeding according to a pre‑approved schedule and are expected to enhance Georgia’s strategic position on the Black Sea.
