Georgios Chatzichronoglou, Byzantine music master, passes away

Georgios Chatzichronoglou, a prominent Archon Hymnologist of the Great Church of Christ, has passed away. He was a highly respected figure in Byzantine ecclesiastical music, serving for decades and training numerous generations of chanters across Greece.

As the conductor of the Byzantine Choir of Athens, Chatzichronoglou received numerous international distinctions, including recent recognition from the President of the Hellenic Republic. Beyond his musical contributions, he was a significant figure in Thebes, where he served as a physical education instructor and helped establish the foundations for local basketball, athletics, and volleyball.

He had served at the Panagia Faneromeni Cathedral in Cholargos since 1998. His funeral procession is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, at 11:00 at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, followed by interment in the cemetery of Loutoufio, Thebes.
