Georgos Geropetritis denies US Ambassador pressure claims

Greek Foreign Minister Georgos Geropetritis has categorically denied reports regarding alleged pressure or threats from US Ambassador Kimberley Guilfoil. Responding to a parliamentary inquiry by independent MP Sia Anagnostopoulou, Geropetritis addressed claims published by the Wall Street Journal suggesting the Ambassador mentioned the possibility of intervening in any country.

The Minister emphasized that no such threat occurred, noting that the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, was present during the incident in question and had already testified in Parliament that no pressure was exerted. Geropetritis stated that summoning an ambassador under these circumstances would create unnecessary diplomatic complications for an event that has been officially refuted.

Additionally, Geropetritis commented on the strengthening Greek-American relations following the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Athens, asserting that Greece views the United States as an equal ally rather than a patron.
