GeoSAT joins SDG Data Alliance to provide satellite data to island nations
GeoSAT, a Portuguese Earth observation satellite operator, has become the first European company to join the SDG Data Alliance. The partnership was signed in New York during the 81st UN General Assembly high-level week.
Through this alliance, coordinated by the PVBLIC Foundation, GeoSAT will provide very high-resolution (VHR) satellite imagery and data to more than 3,000 islands across nearly 40 Small Island Developing States (SIDS). These regions are often highly vulnerable to climate change, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events.
The initiative aims to transform satellite data into actionable insights to support decision-making in critical areas such as land management, agriculture, forestry, coastal monitoring, and emergency response. By participating in the alliance, island nations can access high-level technical capabilities through collective procurement that might otherwise be difficult to secure individually.
