Geospatial technology advances focus on industry innovation and national security

Organizers of Geo Week have announced the program and speaker lineup for the 2027 conference, scheduled for February 23–25 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The event will address industry challenges including AI-enhanced workflows, subsurface mapping, resilient infrastructure, and workforce development. A featured keynote will focus on mapping Utah’s Great Salt Lake.

Separately, advancements in satellite technology are increasingly impacting national security. By combining Earth observation satellites with artificial intelligence and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), nations can monitor border security, maritime activity, and infrastructure protection. Technologies such as high-resolution optical imagery and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) allow for the identification of terrain modifications and unusual land-use patterns in remote areas that are difficult to monitor via traditional ground-based systems.
