Geothermal energy projects advance in several Polish regions

Geothermal energy projects are advancing across several locations in Poland, including Szczecin, Bańska Niżna, Sochaczew, and Trzebnica.

In Szczecin, preparations are underway for the Szczecin GT-2 exploratory borehole near Dąbska Street. The project aims to reach a depth of approximately 1,950 meters to verify the presence of geothermal water with temperatures between 70-75°C. Preparatory work is expected to conclude in the third week of September, with drilling scheduled to finish by the second week of November. Once integrated into the municipal heating system, this resource could meet a significant portion of the city's heat demand and help mitigate price increases related to emission costs.

In Bańska Niżna, the existing Bańska PGP-7 production borehole may be integrated into the heating network by the end of 2026, potentially supplying heat to Zakopane or the Szaflary-Nowy Targ line. Water temperatures are expected to exceed 80°C, and local authorities have indicated that new pricing will not include hikes, but rather a slight decrease.

In Sochaczew, construction of a pipeline on Kochanowskiego Street is ongoing, alongside the expansion of a geothermal plant at the PEC facility to support the local heating network.
