Gera implements domestic violence awareness initiative and new support groups

The district of Untermhaus in Gera has installed a bright red bench as a visible symbol against domestic violence. The initiative, led by the Untermhaus district council and supported by Gera's equality officer Catrin Heinrich, was implemented by Otegau GmbH using oak from the local city forest. Funded by a Smart City project, the bench includes a QR code that directs users to a municipal overview page containing contact information for domestic violence support networks.

Additionally, a new self-help group is being established in Gera to support individuals dealing with neurodiversity, such as ADHD and autism, as well as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDS). The group aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for members to exchange coping strategies and personal experiences.

In local community news, the Steinbrücken district of Robene is hosting a park festival on Saturday, August 29. Organized by the local fire brigade association, the event will feature activities such as a dart tournament, children's entertainment, and food services.
