Gera Mayor discusses renovation of Culture and Congress Center

Gera's Mayor Kurt Dannenberg expressed optimism regarding the renovation of the city's Culture and Congress Center (KuK) during a recent public discussion. The project has an estimated renovation cost of 70 million euros, while the city is currently covering over three million euros in planning costs from its own budget.

Although no external funding from the EU, federal government, or foundations has been secured yet, Dannenberg encouraged citizens to assist in the search for subsidies. He also noted that the city might consider taking out loans for the project.

According to general planner Jörg Baum, discussions with stakeholders will continue through October, with a finalized concept expected by August next year. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with a planned reopening in November 2031. During the renovation period, local businesses and catering services are expected to remain open as much as possible, though no events will be held at the center until its reopening.
