Geraardsbergen conducts large-scale emergency evacuation drill

The local government of Geraardsbergen, in collaboration with GO! Atheneum, police, fire services, medical teams, and the East Flanders Governor's emergency planning department, conducted a large-scale emergency response exercise.

Approximately 1,000 students from GO! Atheneum were successfully evacuated to the De Veldmuis sports center, which served as the designated reception location. The drill involved various emergency responders, including ambulances, a MUG medical team, and the Psychosocial Support Network.

Mayor Fernand Van Trimpont stated that such exercises allow authorities to test and improve procedures, assistance, and readiness to ensure rapid and efficient action during real emergencies. School representatives noted the value of the drill in testing communication, accountability, and cooperation among all involved parties.
