Geraardsbergen driver arrested for suspected drug trafficking

A driver was arrested in Geraardsbergen following a speed check conducted by the Geraardsbergen/Lierde local police on Friday, September 18. During the interception, officers discovered cannabis and cocaine inside the vehicle.

In addition to the narcotics, police seized the vehicle, a mobile phone, a sum of money, and other goods. The suspect was brought before an investigating judge, who decided to take further judicial steps.

Police Chief Patrice De Mets emphasized that traffic controls serve a broader purpose than monitoring speed. He noted that such inspections are a key part of an integrated approach to combat undermining criminality and improve general safety in the region.
