Geraardsbergen hospital to maintain specialized emergency services under AZORG plan
The political party Anders. Geraardsbergen has expressed relief regarding the AZORG policy plan for the Campus Geraardsbergen hospital. The plan confirms the continued existence of the hospital and the temporary preservation of its specialized emergency services.
AZORG intends to invest in infrastructure and expand services, disciplines, and specialized medical staff. Recent developments include a renewed geriatric department, with further investments planned for cardiology, gastroenterology, and cardiac rehabilitation.
Despite the positive outlook for the campus, concerns remain regarding the MUG service. AZORG plans to replace the MUG service with a Paramedical Intervention Team (PIT) starting in October 2027. While AZORG maintains that this change will not affect care quality or response times, local representatives have noted ongoing challenges such as staff shortages and a lack of specialized physicians.
