Gerald Group regains control of Soremi mine in Congo
The American mining group Gerald Group has regained control of Soremi Investments, the owner of the M'Fouati industrial complex in the Bouenza department of the Republic of the Congo. This transition follows a long-standing legal dispute with China National Gold Group (CNG), which had held a 65% stake in the company since 2014.
The resolution of the conflict was facilitated by a July 2025 ruling from the British Virgin Islands justice system, which ordered the modification of the shareholder register to recognize Gerald Group as the 100% owner of Soremi Investments. The court also fined CNG $2.5 million for violating judicial orders.
The Soremi mine, located in southern Congo, produces copper cathodes and zinc ingots. While the facility has been operational since 2017, it has faced industrial slowdowns and legal tensions. The return of Gerald Group aims to stabilize production and support the local economy through job creation and increased mineral output.
