Geraldo Alckmin announces 134 km pilgrim pathway along Dutra highway
Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has announced the creation of the ‘Caminho da Fé’, a 134 km dedicated pathway and cycle lane running alongside the Rodovia Presidente Dutra. The project aims to connect Arujá in the Greater São Paulo area to Aparecida, providing a safe route for religious pilgrims traveling to the National Sanctuary of Aparecida on foot or by bicycle.
The initiative has been included in the federal government's review of the highway's concession contract, which is being managed by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) and the concessionaire RioSP. By segregating pedestrians and cyclists from heavy vehicle traffic, the project seeks to reduce the high risk of accidents and run-overs currently occurring on the shoulders of the Dutra and Ayrton Senna highways.
In addition to the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, Alckmin announced plans to add two extra lanes to the Rodovia Presidente Dutra between São José dos Campos and Aparecida to improve traffic flow during periods of high demand. The planned route will pass through several municipalities, including Jacareí, Taubaté, and Pindamonhangaba.
