Geraldo Alckmin calls Brazilian election a fight between democracy and barbarism

During a political rally in São Paulo, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin characterized the current election as a struggle between “democracy and barbarism.” Speaking alongside São Paulo gubernatorial candidate Fernando Haddad, Alckmin accused supporters of Jair Bolsonaro of attempting a coup d'état and targeting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Alckmin himself, and a Supreme Court minister following their election loss.

Alckmin defended the Lula administration’s economic record, highlighting real increases in the minimum wage, tax reforms, and the “pé de meia” program. He contrasted these actions with the previous Bolsonaro administration, which he claimed provided no real increases to the minimum wage or worker income.

The event also featured Senate candidates Marina Silva and Simone Tebet, as well as Guilherme Boulos, who discussed strategies to reach undecided voters and elderly citizens to bolster Lula’s polling numbers.
