Geraldo Alckmin calls for Electoral Justice impartiality in Aparecida

During a visit to the National Sanctuary in Aparecida, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin called for the Brazilian Electoral Justice to remain impartial and act as a guardian of freedom of expression and political liberty. His remarks followed a controversy involving the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Initially, TSE President Kassio Nunes Marques ordered the removal of a WhatsApp channel named ‘Exército do Lula’ after a request from candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, who alleged the channel spread fake news. However, Electoral Corregedor-General Ricardo Villas Bôas Cuêva overturned that decision and ordered the channel's reactivation. A subsequent technical report from the TSE indicated that no false publications were found within the channel.

Alckmin also addressed religious freedom, responding to rumors regarding the status of Our Lady of Aparecida as Brazil's patron saint. He emphasized the importance of respecting religious traditions and culture in a peaceful nation.
