Geraldo Perdomo leaves game after helmet impact
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was forced to leave a game against the Houston Astros on Sunday after being struck in the helmet by a line drive.
The incident occurred during the third inning after Perdomo had reached first base on a single. A 93 mph line drive hit by teammate Ketel Marte struck the side of Perdomo’s helmet as he was running toward second base. Perdomo fell to the ground and remained on his back for several minutes while medical staff attended to him.
Perdomo eventually stood up and was able to walk off the field under his own power. The Diamondbacks had to adjust their defensive lineup in his absence, moving Ildemaro Vargas to shortstop and bringing in Tim Tawa to play first base. No immediate details regarding Perdomo’s specific medical condition have been released following his evaluations.
