Gerard Balcells hosts intensive stained glass workshops in Lleida

Gerard Balcells, the last stained glass artisan in the province of Lleida, offers an intensive 24-hour workshop in Sant Martí de Maldà. The program teaches ancient techniques used for over 1,000 years, allowing students to progress from having no prior knowledge to creating their own stained glass pieces.

Participants undergo a comprehensive training process that includes the history of the technique, design, precise glass cutting, soldering, and final assembly. Following the success of previous sessions, a fourth workshop is scheduled for the final weekend of September. Balcells notes that the craft is highly practical and has inspired some students to begin working on the craft independently at home.
