Gerardo Villagrá Espinar wins Castell de l’Olla photography contest

Gerardo Villagrá Espinar has won first prize in the 2026 Castell de l’Olla Photography Contest held in Altea. The winning image, which earned a 500 euro prize, captures the fireworks display over the Altea landscape, including the silhouette of the Nuestra Señora del Consuelo church.

To capture the shot, Villagrá used a 400mm focal length from approximately five kilometers away, allowing the pyrotechnics to appear as a massive vault of light over the municipality. The competition featured 63 participants and 122 admitted photographs.

Other prize winners include Roberto Riera Roselló, who received second prize (300 euros), and Juan Antonio Calderón Viudes, who took third prize (200 euros). An exhibition of the highest-rated photographs will remain on display at the Casa de Cultura until September 25.
