GERB faces electoral risk if supporting Andrey Gyurov, analyst warns
Political analyst Kriyan Shkvarek has warned that the GERB party faces a potential catastrophe if it chooses to support Andrey Gyurov in the upcoming presidential elections instead of fielding its own candidate.
Shkvarek argues that endorsing Gyurov could alienate between one-quarter and one-third of GERB's voter base, effectively driving them away. He suggests that such a move would be seen as an insult to the party's core supporters.
Regarding the potential runoff, Shkvarek characterizes a possible matchup between Iliana Yotova and Andrey Gyurov not as a clash between traditional left and pro-European right, but rather as a choice between “classical left and modern left.”
