GERB signals European Commission over Road Infrastructure Agency audit

The political party GERB has officially filed a signal with the European Commission regarding an extraordinary audit of the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) conducted by the National Audit Office. GERB claims there is an attempt to deliberately mislead control authorities by manipulating data to legitimize financial discrepancies.

According to statements from the party, there are allegations that certificates for activities intended for the 2026 budget are being prematurely moved to the 2025 budget year. This procedure is allegedly designed to artificially increase the 2025 deficit to reduce the projected 5.7% GDP deficit for 2026. However, GERB noted that the National Audit Office's draft report did not confirm claims regarding the discovery of undeclared financial documents or ‘in drawer’ invoices as previously alleged by Progressive Bulgaria.
