Gerbépal town hall destroyed by major fire

A major fire destroyed the town hall in Gerbépal, France, during the early hours of Thursday, October 8, 2026. The blaze completely ravaged the municipal building, though the town's archives were reportedly the only items spared.

Eight residents living in apartments within the building were evacuated and relocated to stay with family. Local schools were closed for the remainder of the week as a precaution, with children being cared for at a rural community center. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.

The incident also caused significant traffic disruptions, requiring the diversion of the D8 road during emergency operations.
