Gergely Őrsi denied vocational training during corruption detention

Gergely Őrsi, the mayor of Budapest's II. District, has been denied permission to participate in a drywall and light construction training course while in pre-trial detention. Despite opportunities for inmates to learn trades, prison authorities did not approve his request following media coverage of his situation.

Őrsi has been in detention since June 4 in connection with a corruption investigation involving the Óbuda area. The Central Investigative Chief Prosecutor's Office alleges that an entrepreneur managing a park maintenance company bribed municipal leaders and political figures across various administrations between 2011 and 2024, with total payments exceeding 2 billion forints. Őrsi denies all allegations, calling the suspicions entirely unfounded.
