Budapest Court issues final verdict in antifa attack trial

The Budapest Metropolitan Court has issued a final verdict in the antifa case involving a series of attacks carried out in February 2023. The defendants, members of a radical left-wing organization, were found guilty of participating in a criminal organization and causing serious injuries during five separate attacks targeting individuals perceived to be far-right. The incidents resulted in nine injuries, six of which were classified as serious.

In the appellate ruling, the court slightly reduced the sentences for two defendants. German national Maja T. had her eight-year prison sentence reduced to seven years, and Italian national Gabriele M. had his seven-year sentence reduced to six years. Both were denied the possibility of parole. The court upheld the sentence for German national Anna M., who received a two-year prison sentence suspended for five years.

The first defendant, Ilaria Salis, remains protected by parliamentary immunity following her election as a Member of the European Parliament, meaning proceedings against her are currently suspended. A second defendant, Tobias E., had previously received a final judgment and was extradited to Germany.
