Gerhard Richter to design exhibition pavilion in Qatar

German painter Gerhard Richter is designing an exhibition pavilion in Qatar. The hexagonal structure is set to be built in the park of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

Inspired by Richter’s ‘Strip Paintings,’ the pavilion is intended to function as a standalone work of art and architecture, showcasing selected paintings and sculptures. The project was announced by al-Majassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chair of Qatar Museums and sister to the Emir of Qatar.

The pavilion is scheduled to open in November during the Quadriennale art exhibition. No specific budget details have been released regarding the construction.
