German actors critique gender representation in 'Tatort' series

German actors and upcoming 'Tatort' lead Rosalie Thomass have voiced criticisms regarding the portrayal of women in crime television. In a podcast discussion with Bettina Böttinger, Thomass described the frequent depiction of violence against women in media as 'horrible' and criticized the prevalence of the 'male gaze' in crime narratives.

Separately, veteran investigators Ulrike Folkerts and Lisa Bitter are marking a milestone in the Ludwigshafen 'Tatort' series. On October 4, the duo will air their 25th joint episode, titled 'Explosive Mischung', which focuses on themes of violence against women. Folkerts reflected on the historical struggle to establish female commissioners as credible figures in the genre.
