German administrations disable online services due to IT security flaws

Public administrations in several German regions, including Potsdam and parts of Rheinland-Pfalz, have suspended various online services due to IT security vulnerabilities.

In Potsdam, the city has taken several digital services offline as a precaution, including appointment management, resident registration, vehicle registration, business registrations, and the daycare portal. Officials stated the shutdown is due to a global security flaw in an IT program and that they are working with the platform provider to resolve the issue. Citizens are advised to use the 115 service number for urgent matters.

In Rheinland-Pfalz, data centers have proactively shut down parts of their IT environments to mitigate potential security risks. This has caused disruptions in local administrations, specifically affecting the districts of Bitburg-Prüm and Vulkaneifel. Impacted services include vehicle registration offices, registry offices, and certain schools. Authorities in these regions have requested that citizens refrain from visiting offices in person until services are restored.
