German adult education centers expand health and wellness programs

Adult education centers in Germany are expanding their health and prevention offerings for the new semester.

In the Heidekreis region, the Volkshochschule (VHS) is introducing new nutrition-focused courses. These include sessions for parents on fostering healthy eating habits in children and courses for adults on intuitive eating and managing emotional eating triggered by stress or boredom.

In Dorsten, VHS Dorsten is launching a variety of health initiatives under the motto ‘VHS macht gesünder!’. Key programs include ‘Heart Weeks’ focused on recognizing atrial fibrillation, held in cooperation with the Deutsche Herzstiftung and St. Elisabeth-Krankenhaus Dorsten. The curriculum also covers digital health literacy, such as navigating electronic patient records (ePA) and e-prescriptions, alongside physical wellness activities like yoga, Pilates, and Qigong, and guidance on applying for care levels.
