German AfD’s In-House AI Generator Produces Discriminatory Posts
The far‑right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has built its own artificial‑intelligence tool to create campaign content. The system can produce posts within seconds, automatically pairing a headline, a demand written in bold, and a stylised illustration. Several of the generated messages have been flagged as discriminatory, prompting a review of whether the tool breaches the usage policies of the underlying AI models and may run afoul of German law.
In a separate but thematically related case, a Swiss journalist submitted a blog entry from 2017 to an AI‑detection service, which labeled the text as 76 % AI‑generated. The result sparked debate over the reliability of such detectors, with other historic texts also receiving high AI‑generated scores. Experts argue that detection models tend to mark well‑structured, traditional writing as AI‑generated, raising concerns for journalists, educators, and the broader public about the trustworthiness of AI‑authorship claims.
Both incidents highlight growing scrutiny of AI‑generated content, from political propaganda to the credibility of detection tools, and point to potential legal and ethical consequences for misuse.
