German Air Force certifies IRIS-T SLM air defense system
The German Air Force has successfully completed the operational certification of the IRIS-T SLM air defense system during the NATO SPARTAN ARROW 26 exercise at the NATO Athene Range in Crete, Greece. The certification included a successful live-fire test involving the TRML-4D radar, the Common Tactical Operations Center (CTOC), and the IRIS-T SLM missile launcher.
During the exercise, Airbus Defence and Space demonstrated a digital air defense integration by linking the German IRIS-T SLM system with the Swedish Air Force’s Patriot system through the SAMOC (Surface to Air Missile Operations Centre) command and control software. This integration allowed for real-time data sharing and coordinated engagement across different national systems.
The training also involved other defense elements, including Stinger and LeFlaSys units, to test multi-layered defense capabilities against various threats such as cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch noted that the successful firing verified the system’s operational reliability and high accuracy.
