German Alpine Club section sees growth in Christian membership
The ‘Gipfelkreuz’ section of the German Alpine Club (Deutscher Alpenverein) has seen significant growth, evolving from a small group of eleven people into a community of more than 9,000 members. Established as a nationwide hub for Christian alpinists since 2020, the group attracts a diverse mix of individuals, including non-denominational climbers, Catholic snowshoers, and Protestant experiential educators.
Founded seven years ago by Pastor Daniel Jägers, the community has experienced rapid expansion, recording approximately 1,500 new members in the last quarter alone. The group serves as a gathering point for Christians of various denominations who seek to combine their faith with mountain sports such as climbing and hiking.
