German alpinist rescued after severe fall in Tirol Alps

A 44‑year‑old German climber from Ettlingen suffered a serious fall on Tuesday near the Strahlkopf area of the Allgäu Alps. He was located the following morning lying in a deep snowfield at an altitude of 2,219 m, badly injured and unable to recall the accident.

Rescue teams from the Elbigenalp mountain rescue service, supported by police, volunteer fire brigades and search dogs, located him using his mobile signal. Six rescuers provided initial care and a medical helicopter (RK2) air‑lifted him to the Murnau hospital in Germany after stabilisation.

The incident highlights the coordinated cross‑border mountain rescue efforts between Austrian and German authorities.
