German Ambassador Alfred Grannas on Bosnia’s EU Bid and Sanctions Against Milorad Dodik
German Ambassador Alfred Grannas met with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović to review the countries’ strong bilateral ties, noting that trade between the two nations reached nearly 5.9 billion BAM in 2025. Grannas reaffirmed Germany’s support for Bosnia’s full membership in the EU and NATO and highlighted Germany’s role in the Peace Implementation Council and the Quinte for Bosnia.
The discussion also covered the continuation of EU‑aligned sanctions on Republika Srpska leader Milorad Dodik, which remain in force and are coordinated with several other EU states. Grannas said the sanctions target individuals, not the entity of Republika Srpska, and will be reassessed after upcoming elections. Both sides stressed the importance of a credible process for appointing a new High Representative to maintain the Office of the High Representative’s full mandate.
