German Ambassador visits Anogeia to discuss reparations and textile repatriation

German Ambassador Andreas Kindl visited Anogeia, Crete, to meet with Mayor Socrates Kefalogiannis. The visit was part of a broader trip to the region, which included a visit to the Skinaka Observatory following a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) and the German company OHB.

During the meeting, Mayor Kefalogiannis addressed sensitive historical issues, specifically calling for the settlement of German reparations and the preservation of historical memory. A central point of discussion was the request for the repatriation of Anogeian textiles. According to the Mayor, these items were removed from the area during looting prior to the Holocaust and are currently located in Germany. The Mayor emphasized that these textiles are essential components of the community's cultural identity and historical memory.
