German and French communities hold cultural exchange visits
German and French rural communities continue to strengthen long-standing cultural ties through recent exchange visits.
In July, approximately 40 participants from Willingshausen and Schwalmstadt traveled to their partner community, Cléon d’Andran, in the Provence region. This partnership, which dates back to 1967, is one of the oldest in Hessen and was established following the spirit of the 1963 Élysée Treaty to promote citizen exchange.
Similarly, residents of Hahn am See hosted 41 guests from Le Verger sur Dive in the Poitou region from late July to early August. This exchange program, supported by the German-French Citizen Fund, has been active for 62 years. The event featured over 110 German participants and included several young people to ensure the program's future. Notably, 92-year-old Jacques Martin, a symbol of the friendship between the two towns, participated in the event, having attended every meeting since 1964.
