German and Scottish cultural ties highlighted through regional events

Cultural and historical connections between Germany and Scotland were highlighted through recent regional events. In the Hochsauerlandkreis region, members of the West Lothian twinning association from Scotland visited for four days to foster long-standing friendships. A key event was the ‘Planting Festival for Europe’ in Hallenberg, where Scottish yew trees were planted alongside previously planted oaks to symbolize European unity.

In a separate historical exploration, a group from Trier and Luxembourg investigated the Irish-Scottish mission's impact on the region. Led by Katharina Zey-Wortmann, the excursion focused on the legacy of St. Wendelin. Research conducted by the Abbey in cooperation with the University of Heidelberg aims to clarify the early history of the monastery, which blends Celto-Romanic and Irish-Scottish cultural elements. Experts discussed the historical reality of St. Wendelin, tracing his origins to the Findalans clan in Ireland.
