German Architecture Milestones: Emsdetten Town Hall Exhibition and Frankfurt Museum Renovation

An exhibition marking 50 years of the Emsdetten town hall opened in the building’s first floor and will run until 6 August 2026. The launch featured a lecture by Helmuth Schäckel, head of the city’s building‑management department, who explained how the original façade design by Prof. Ostertag was replaced with a modern aluminium curtain façade and external walkways to improve safety, maintenance and aesthetic distinction.

In Frankfurt, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum completed a major renovation after five years of planning and three‑and‑a‑half years of construction. The museum reopened on 1 June with upgraded fire‑safety, energy efficiency and climate control. Facades, roofs, doors and windows were replaced, modern building services installed, and original details preserved. New glass roofs feature Microshade glazing that blocks summer UV while admitting winter sunlight, enhancing visitor comfort and preserving the building’s post‑modern heritage.
