German authorities investigate Hansa Rostock hooligans over swastika photos

German authorities, including the Rostock Public Prosecutor's Office and police, have launched an investigation into hooligans associated with the football club FC Hansa Rostock. The probe follows the publication of photographs by the research portal Exif, which show a group of fans posing in front of a swastika flag and wearing clothing with far-right symbols during a friendly match against FC Watford in England in late July.

Investigators are looking into the suspected use of symbols from unconstitutional organizations. Although the incident occurred abroad, such offenses remain punishable under German law. Additionally, the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) is investigating whether members of the Bundeswehr were involved in the incidents during their leisure time.

Reports suggest the group may have also arranged confrontations with hooligans from other clubs, including Glasgow Rangers and Olympique Lyon, during their trip to England. In response, FC Hansa Rostock has announced potential stadium bans and club expulsions for those involved, provided they are members of the club. Two individuals identified as hooligans working as bouncers in the Rostock club scene have reportedly already lost their jobs.
