Automotive clubs report wide performance gaps in tire tests

Recent automotive club tests by ADAC and AvD have evaluated various winter and all-season tire models, revealing significant performance disparities across different driving conditions.

In the 185/65 R15 winter tire category tested by ADAC, only two models—the Continental WinterContact TS 870 and Michelin Alpin 7—received a ‘good’ rating. Nine of the 16 tested models were not recommended due to performance gaps, particularly in wet braking, which testers noted could be critical for safety.

Testing for all-season tires showed varying results. In the 225/50 R17 size, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 was rated ‘very good’ by AvD, followed by the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 and Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3. In the 185/65 R15 size, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 also led the field, while several models were rated ‘insufficient’ due to poor winter performance.

In the 225/45 R17 winter tire test conducted by AvD, the Pirelli Cinturato Winter 3 took first place, closely followed by the Michelin Alpin 7. Both achieved high scores, though Pirelli was noted for superior aquaplaning resistance and wet handling.
