German bakery sector sees consolidation as Brotwert Group acquires Bäcker Eifler and Leifert restructures
The newly created Brotwert Group, which already includes the family‑run bakeries Görtz and Pappert, has added Bäcker Eifler to its portfolio. The Rhein‑Main bakery, founded in 1921, operates more than 95 outlets and employs around 200 staff. The acquisition aims to expand the group’s store network, boost organic growth and pursue digitalisation and process improvements.
In a separate development, the traditional Bäckerei Leifert in Gifhorn has completed its self‑administration restructuring. Creditors unanimously approved the rescue plan, and the insolvency court confirmed it, allowing the company to exit the procedure. Leifert will continue operating 23 profitable branches in the Wolfsburg‑Gifhorn‑Braunschweig‑Hannover area and has taken on the regional group Karlchen’s Backstube as a new co‑owner, bringing additional industry expertise to the business.
